I always use Mainstage and Ableton Live in my setup for loops/ VST's and what-nots! I always have my MBP set up pretty much above the mod wheel where it is very natural and second nature for me to get to it while playing. I also like to change all of my sounds / patches with my left hand which makes the extern section useless to me.
You know, that has to be one of the very few things that I just can't get into on my NS2! I (very personally) really dislike where the extern section is on the board and how little it is, not practical at all for me in a live setting.
